Highlights of the 2007 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, 1-5 June 2007, Chicago, IL
The Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology is the largest cancer meeting in the world. This year more than 33,000 oncologists and health care professionals were able to attend over 4000 oral and poster presentations on cutting edge cancer research. The theme of the 2007 meeting was “Translating research into practice”. Dr. Gabriel N. Hortobagyi, MD, the President of ASCO, noted in his Presidential Address that “ASCO members are uniquely positioned in the oncology research spectrum to implement the translation of basic research into clinical practice and accelerate the pace of progress at this level.”
Some of the most interesting and potentially practice-changing results were related to genitourinary tumors, including prostate and bladder cancer. We talked to some international leaders in urology at this year’s ASCO meeting to hear their impressions of these new data.
